Frank Carey's name is well known in aviation historians.
Fought in France in May 1940, shot down 12+ German aircraft and won DFC and Bar. Fought in Battle of Britain. Score 18 by Mid-August 1940. Wounded in combat in 1941 while a Squadron Leader, went to Burma to fight the Japanese. Shot down several Japanese aircraft. Awarded a Second Bar to DFC. Served as a flight instructor in India. Received the AFC. Ended the war as Group Captain. Received the US Silver Star, America's third-highest award for valor in the field,

Distinguished post-war career.Carey was the second-highest scoring Hurricane fighter pilot, the only aircraft he flew in combat.

Of the top 12 British Aces of WWII, Carey's is the only story not to have produced as a book.
Norman Franks was given full access to Carey's private papers, log books and archives.
